My paintings revaluate the historical tableau, presenting the female figure as artist, rather than muse. Often reinventing existing subjects, the paintings form a hybrid between the historical and the contemporary. I construct utopian worlds, flaunting excess and opulence through figurative painting. My work presents the staged nature of fashion iconography, highlighting the absurdity of their original production. Symbols of wealth and status are placed within the studio setting, adding to the misconception of the artists ‘champagne life’, meanwhile reinforcing its elitist and exclusive nature. I am currently working as a painter in the studio of Damien Hirst, having studied Fine Art at Bath Spa University.
