Flash call-out : the chosen ones
About the Flash call-out - from This is not a Shop’s team
We received a range of submissions to the flash call-out for an exhibition to inhabit the front of This is not a Shop’s pop-up artspace.
Though it didn’t fit the plan, we selected two exhibitions: one perfect for the entrance space, and a second which we just couldn’t resist sharing with you so we made space….
All Dressed Up & Nowhere To Go
A photographic essay by Joe Short with words by Dionne McCulloch.
We selected Joe and Dionne’s response as it surprised us, it presents a different perspective on people’s experience of the covid pandemic, and as a bonus we felt that it brings the performance elements of Bath Fringe together with the visual arts of Fringe Arts Bath.
On submitting the work, Joe wrote:
“I have created a photographic essay documenting the world of 30 performers and creatives who were left without their audience throughout the pandemic.
Entitled "All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go" I shot each character dressed as they would be for their job, but in the environment of their lockdown experience.
In conjunction with Bath writer Dionne McCulloch, we interviewed each sitter about their experiences. I want to show the portraits framed with the interviews next to each one, as the shared experience adds huge depth to the images and to our understanding of how incredibly inventive and positive people have been at coping with seeming adversity.”
Coastal Shift
Three films by local dance companies AllouAqui Dance Theatre, Yama Dance Company and Emily Brown Dance.
We couldn’t resist making space for this trio of dance films, bringing a breath of fresh air, a joyous response to our coastal landscapes via a grouping of diverse bodies, movements and moments.
You’ll discover these works nestled away in a small screening room in the basement.
Both Fringe teams are really pleased with our selection, and grateful to all who submitted for sharing their work with us.
These pop-up exhibitions will be on display 12noon - 5pm, Weds - Sunday, 18 - 27 August at This is not a Shop, 5 Broad Street, Bath BA1 5LJ
